15 Ways to Spend Quality Time with Mom this Mother’s Day Weekend

Moms are to be celebrated every day but there is no denying the joy in spoiling them a little extra each Mother’s Day. Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau wants to help you plan an exciting and memorable Mother’s Day weekend. Whether you are looking to honor your mom, the mother of your children, your grandmother, a sister or perhaps a good friend that just became a mom, we’ve compiled a list of events and experiences unique to Chautauqua County, New York that are bound to impress.

Lake Erie Wine CountryGrape Expectations Wine Festival: The Dunkirk and Fredonia Community Chambers of Commerce jointly present their annual Grape Expectations Wine Festival. Showcasing wines from Chautauqua County and the Lake Erie Wine Trail!

The cost is one for $15 or two for $25 which will include wine tasting, light appetizers, music, a complimentary wine glass, and more!  Tickets for raffle prizes will be available at the door.

Nunsations, LIVE Theatrical Performance: The Nunsense Vegas Revue takes place in “real time” in the Pump Room Lounge of the Mystique Motor Lodge in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Sisters have been told by a Hoboken parishioner that he would donate $10,000 to their school, if the Sisters would go to Las Vegas and perform in a friend’s showroom. Reverend Mother has serious doubts about appearing in ‘Sin City.” However, after convincing Reverend Mother “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” the Sisters plan their program.

Bird Banding, Jamestown AudubonBird Banding at the Audubon: Join research ornithologists  as they capture, band, and release birds, recording information for science.  While not necessary to enjoy the demonstrations, you may want to bring bird guides & binoculars

Saturday, May 13 at the Jamestown Audubon and Community Nature Center, 7am-11am. Free; donations appreciated. No reservations required.


Mother’s Day Craft & Gift Show: The Pet Pantry is hosting an indoor craft show at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. Pamper Mom. Come shop for homemade chocolates, flowers, jewelry, pottery, textiles, and fairy gardens among the 60 handmade only crafts. Taste some wine and relax with a massage from a certified massage therapist. Refreshments will be available.

Saturday, May 13 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, May 14 from 10am-4pm at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, Dunkirk. Admission $1.00 donation to The Pet Pantry.


Lucy Desi Museum Behind the Scenes TourLucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Museum Behind the Scenes Tour: Enjoy a behind the scenes tour of America’s favorite TV show – “I Love Lucy”. A knowledgeable guide will give you a personal look into the lives and careers of the “First Couple of Comedy” and their impact on television history.

Saturday, May 13th at the Lucy-Desi Center, Jamestown, 10am-5pm.  Admission $15.00.


LIVE at the Met, Der Rosenkavalier: Captured live in High Definition at NYC’s Metropolitan Opera. The dream cast of Renee Fleming as the Marschallin and Elina Garanca as Octavian star in Richard Strauss’ grandest opera.

3rd Annual Taste of the Trail Wine Festival: Presented by Media One Group, Northwest Arena, Niagara Wine Trail and Lake Erie Wine Country. Tickets $25 pre-sale or $35 at the door and include wine samples and a commemorative tasting glass.

Sensory Winery and Art Gallery, Ripley, NYLIVE Music at Sensory Winery and Art Gallery: Featuring Tommy Link (solo), frontman of Strangers and Liars. FREE pizza and pub pretzels as well as drink specials. Glasses of Sensory Winery wines and frosty pints from 7 Sins Brewery are $4 all evening.

The Mother’s Day event is an opportunity to take a couple hours to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of even the smallest and the most common wildflowers.

Champagne Tasting Class: Tasting class at Bag & String Wine Merchants which will focus on premier examples of true Champagne paired with fondue from Reverie Creamery. Limited seats available, reservations are required.
